We are a husband-and-wife writing team with a particular love for fantasy. D. Art enjoys spending his spare moments contemplating new ways of communicating themes through the art of storytelling, in between writing those stories and his job. Kay serves as the editing and publishing half of our duo. We are living, working, and raising our family in South Carolina.

D. grew up in the midwestern US, where his mother encouraged his early love of books and storytelling by reading to him as a child. He would fabricate complex scenarios as he played with his siblings on their 86-acre farm. He holds a master's degree and a Ph.D. and teaches biology in a college setting. Just a few of his diverse hobbies include tarantula keeping, photography and photo-based art, and keeping up with the latest tech news.

Kay is a native New Englander who was brought up in a book-loving family. Her childhood favorite reads encompassed everything from fanciful fiction to kids’ zoology texts. With a passion for careful writing as early as elementary school, and with a lifelong interest in the life sciences, she chose to study biology and journalism in college—the same place she met D. In addition to her work on our books, she homeschools our children. She spends her free moments building Legos and playing outside with the kids.
